STMicroelectronics Reveals Ultra-Tiny Low-Dropout Regulator in Breakthrough Bumpless Chip-Scale Package

STMicroelectronics has introduced the LDBL20, a 200mA Low-Dropout (LDO) regulator in a minuscule 0.47mm x 0.47mm x 0.2mm chip-scale package that is ideal for wearable and portable devices and for flexible electronics such as multifunction connected smart cards.

The LDBL20’s bumpless STSTAMP™ package breaks through the minimum I/O-area and height limitation imposed by the diameter of traditional flip-chip solder bumps, enabling unprecedentedly small footprints and low mounted heights. The LDBL20 extends ST’s family of compact LDOs, which includes devices from 2mm x 2mm DFN to a 0.69mm x 0.69mm CSP with 300mA output.

New 1700V SiC MOSFET and Control IC Evaluation Board from ROHM Semiconductor

ROHM Semiconductor has recently announced the availability of a new 1700V SiC MOSFET optimized for industrial applications, including manufacturing equipment and high-voltage general-purpose inverters.

In recent years, the growing trend to conserve energy in all areas has increased the demand for energy-saving power semiconductors, particularly for applications in the industrial sector such as general-purpose inverters and manufacturing equipment. In the majority of auxiliary power supplies, which are used to provide drive voltages for power supply circuits, control ICs, and various supplementary systems, high breakdown (1000V+) silicon MOSFETs are normally utilized. However, these high-voltage MOSFETs suffer from large conduction loss (often leading to excessive heat generation), and present problems related to mounting area and the number of external components, making it difficult to reduce system size. In response, ROHM developed low-loss SiC MOSFETs and control ICs that maximize performance while contributing to end-product miniaturization.

TRIAC-Dimmable LYTSwitch-7 LED Driver ICs From Power Integrations Cut BOM Count by 40%

Bleeder-less, highly efficient, robust IC family serves bulbs, tubes and fixtures up to 22 W

Power Integrations (Nasdaq:POWI), the leader in high-efficiency, high-reliability LED driver ICs, today announced its LYTSwitch™-7 single-stage, non-isolated, TRIAC-dimmable, buck topology LED driver IC family. Capable of delivering up to 22 watts without a heatsink in a very small SO-8 footprint, these high-efficiency devices are suitable for bulbs, tubes and fixtures. LYTSwitch-7 designs do not require bleeders; employing simple, passive damping for TRIAC management and an off-the-shelf, single-winding inductor, reducing component count to just 20, as compared to approximately 35 parts for typical dimmable LED driver boards.

ON Semiconductor Introduces Automotive Power Integrated Module Solution for Next Generation Automotive BLDC Systems

ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON ), has further expanded its portfolio of automotive Power Integrated Modules (PIMs) with the introduction of the STK984-190-E.Optimized for driving 3-phase brushless DC motors in modern automotive applications, this module contains six 40 V, 30 A MOSFETs configured as a three-phase bridge with an additional 40 V, 30 A high-side reverse battery protection MOSFET. The MOSFETs are mounted onto a direct bonded copper (DBC) substrate, resulting in a compact module with excellent thermal performance taking up only half of the board space used by an equivalent discrete solution.

Murata DC-DC converter powers gate drives for optimal performance and efficiency

Murata has announced the MGJ1 1 Watt DC-DC converter series manufactured by Murata Power Solutions. These compact devices are ideal for driving high and low-side gate circuits such as those using IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs for optimal efficiency. With high isolation characteristics, up to 5.2 kVDC, the MGJ1 offers the popular nominal output voltage combinations of +15 / -5, +15 / -9, or +19 / -5 VDC. The series also offers a choice of +5, +12, or +24 VDC input.

2A, 2MHz, 28V Boost/SEPIC/Inverting DC/DC Converter with IQ = 6µA

Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT8335, a current mode, 2MHz step-up DC/DC converter with an internal 2A, 28V switch. It operates from an input voltage range of 3V to 25V, suitable for applications with input sources ranging from a single-cell Li-Ion to automotive inputs. The LT8335 can be configured as either a boost, SEPIC or an inverting converter. It utilizes a fixed 2MHz switching frequency, enabling designers to minimize external component sizes and avoid critical frequency bands, such as AM radio. Burst Mode® operation reduces quiescent current to only 6µA while keeping output ripple below 15mVP-P. The combination of a 3mm x 2mm DFN package and tiny externals ensures a very compact footprint while minimizing solution cost.
