40A µModule Regulator with 3D Stacked-Inductor Packaging Enhances Thermal Conduction for Cooler Operation

Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTM4636, a 40A step-down µModule® switching regulator with 3D construction for quicker heat dissipation and cooler operation in a small package. By stacking its inductor on top of a 16mm x 16mm BGA package, the LTM4636 benefits from the exposed inductor as a heat sink, permitting direct contact with airflow from any direction to cool the device. The LTM4636 delivers 40W (12VIN, 1VOUT, 40A, 200LFM) with only 40°C rise over ambient temperature. Full-power 40W is delivered up to 83°C ambient and half-power 20W is supported at 110°C ambient.

TI's 4-A synchronous DC/DC buck converter simplifies design and shrinks system size in automotive and industrial applications

Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) today introduced the industry's first fully integrated power management solution for double date rate (DDR)2, DDR3 and DDR3L memory subsystems in automotive and industrial applications. The TPS54116-Q1 DC/DC buck converter is a 2.95-V to 6-V input, 4-A synchronous step-down converter with a 1-A peak sink/source DDR termination and buffered reference that reduces system size by up to 50 percent compared to discrete implementations.

TDK Corporation announces the introduction of the TDK-Lambda 15W CCG15S series of DC-DC converters, further extending the CCG product family. Operating over a 4:1 input range, these highly efficiency products are enclosed in a 1 inch by 1 inch six-sided shielded metal case. STMicroelectronics Reveals High-Efficiency Wireless Battery-Charging Chipset for Smaller, Simpler, Sealed Wearables

A miniaturized wireless battery-charging chipset from STMicroelectronics saves space, simplifies enclosure design and sealing, and accelerates time to market for ultra-compact sports wearables, wellness monitors, medical sensors, and remote controllers. The combination of ST’s STWBC-WA charging-transmitter controller and STWLC04 wireless battery-charger receiver enables power transfers up to 1W with smaller coils than any other chipsets in the market: just 11mm diameter coils on the receive side and 20mm for the transmitter allow tinier, slimmer form factors. Power-transfer capability can be increased to 3W by using larger coils and a full-bridge circuit on the transmitter side. Eliminating any need for a conventional charging connector simplifies enclosure design and eases sealing to prevent contamination by dirt or moisture.

60V Synchronous Buck Battery Charger Includes Lead-Acid & Li-Ion Charge Algorithms for up to 20A Charge Current

Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC4013, a highly integrated, high voltage multi-chemistry synchronous step-down battery charger controller. With a wide input voltage range that spans up to 60V, the LTC4013 uses temperature-compensated 3- and 4-stage charge algorithms to efficiently charge 12V and 24V lead-acid batteries. Alternatively, the LTC4013 will charge a multicell Lithium-based battery stack with float voltages near to the input supply. Mode pins define the float voltage and charge algorithm. Charge current is precision regulated to ±5% and programmable with a single resistor up to 20A (depending on the selection of external components). The LTC4013 features user-adjustable maximum power point tracking (MPPT) circuitry that enables simple power optimization in the case of power-limited sources such as solar panels. The MPPT open-circuit method corrects for panel temperature changes without the inconvenience of adding a solar panel temperature sensor. Applications include portable medical instruments, monitoring equipment, battery backup systems, industrial handhelds, industrial lighting, military equipment, ruggedized notebooks/tablet computers, plus remote powered communication and telemetry systems.
