Maxim Announces Industry's First Remote Tuner Solution with Single Hardware Platform Supporting Worldwide Radio Standards for Automotive Applications

MAX2175 RF to Bits® tuner-based solution reduces cables and simplifies vehicle head unit design

Using the remote tuner solution from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM), designers can significantly simplify the head unit design of a vehicle and reduce cables. The MAX2175 RF to Bits tuner within the solution eliminates the need to rework the vehicle's hardware to support worldwide radio standards, allowing updates by simply changing the vehicle's software.

Traditional radio architecture brings many challenges to vehicle designers. The vehicle's complex head unit must accommodate multiple tuners, manage heat dissipation, and receive multiple cables from the antennas. In addition, the received analog signals pick up noise as they travel from the antenna to the head unit of the vehicle. Finally, baseband processing uses single purpose hardware, requiring separate designs to support multiple worldwide radio standards.

Maxim Reference Design Speeds Development of Wearable Heart-Rate and Pulse-Oximetry Monitors

Developers of heart rate and blood oxygen (SpO2) monitors can now accelerate their efforts using the ultra-small MAXREFDES117# reference design from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM).

This optical heart-rate module reference design incorporates red and infrared LEDs, a sensor, power subsystem, and logic level translation. Measuring 13mm x 13mm, this tiny, low-power board can be placed on a finger or earlobe to accurately detect heart rate and SpO2 via personal wearable devices. The module works with both Arduino® and ARM® mbed™ platforms for ease of design, testing, and system integration, and includes eight "tap pads" for quick electrical connection to a development platform and/or wearable garment.

LUXEON UV U1 Doubles Performance Of Current Smallest UV Emitter In The Industry

The LUXEON UV U1 delivers twice the irradiance power of the previous generation UV LED at 380-390 nm in a miniature 2.2 mm2 SMD package with a 5x greater power density.

Leveraging its leading expertise in chip scale packaging, Lumileds today introduced the LUXEON UV U1 LED for use in UV curing, counterfeit detection, analytical instrumentation, inspections and other UVA and Violet (380-420 nm) applications. This third generation of UV LEDs maintains the same micro package size as LUXEON Z UV, but enables a higher power density. LUXEON UV U1 also features a robust design that eliminates materials like silicone over mold, which tends to yellow and crack upon UV exposure, and the elimination of wire bonds that can lead to catastrophic connection failures. “UV LED customers are reliability driven. They tend to run their equipment 24/7 and demand a proven product that will perform as expected for over 20,000 hours. The LUXEON UV U1 is that reliable product,” said Yan Chai, Product Line Director of Lumileds UV LEDs.

40A µModule Regulator with 3D Stacked-Inductor Packaging Enhances Thermal Conduction for Cooler Operation

Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTM4636, a 40A step-down µModule® switching regulator with 3D construction for quicker heat dissipation and cooler operation in a small package. By stacking its inductor on top of a 16mm x 16mm BGA package, the LTM4636 benefits from the exposed inductor as a heat sink, permitting direct contact with airflow from any direction to cool the device. The LTM4636 delivers 40W (12VIN, 1VOUT, 40A, 200LFM) with only 40°C rise over ambient temperature. Full-power 40W is delivered up to 83°C ambient and half-power 20W is supported at 110°C ambient.
